Samsung’s flagship handset for 2009 is stunning, combining the two most desirable factors in mobile phones; the slide mechanism with full touchscreen interface. It has an ample screen of 2.8 inches across, which is large for a slide phone, but a bit smaller than most touchscreens. It also a high resolution of 240 x 400 pixels.

For Samsung virgins and those who text heavily, it can be a little difficult to get used to the interface, but once mastered, this phone is just a joy to use; however, with the inclusion of the keypad it does mean that if you’re struggling with the touchscreen then there’s an alternate option. It’s just one of the reasons that this phone is so good.

It also features the latest 8 megapixel camera with smile-detection autofocus, a powerful LED flash, and the geo-tagging feature (locating where a photograph was taken) thanks to the built-in GPS.

This phone can play music of all formats, including being able to play videos in DivX & XviD formats. Samsung have only managed to build-in 80mb of memory, but the phone supports a memory card of up to 16gb, and this will probably need to be done, especially if you want to save a lot of music and videos.

The Tocco Ultra also has pretty decent connectivity and data transferring capabilities. So connecting to the internet and other phones shouldn’t be too much hassle.

Once again, Samsung has succeeded in creating a really stunning phone to look at, but it’s not, as is sometimes a risk, merely superficial. This phone has some really nice features, and will definitely be a big seller.

Summary:

  • Good Points: Stunning Camera, Stunning Aesthetic. Just stunning really.
  • Bad Points: Built-in memory isn’t the best, but is easily rectified.
  • Others to Consider: LG Viewty GC900, LG Crystal GD900, Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.
  • Free on Contract with: O2 & Vodafone.
