Samsung Tocco Lite S5230 Review
Samsung Tocco Lite S5230
User Rating: The Tocco Lite, as suggested by its name, is a slightly stripped down version of Samsung’s higher-end Tocco Ultra; making use of an entirely touchscreen interface, as opposed to the Tocco Ultra’s conjunction of touchscreen and slide mechanism. As one could expect, as a cut-price version, this phone doesn’t have all of the features that make a high-end phone a high-end phone. To start with, it has a lesser 3.2 megapixel camera which lacks a flash, limiting it somewhat. More importantly for some people, this phone unfortunately doesn’t support 3G, and that will be a deal breaker for quite a few people.
The Tocco Lite is instead a quad-band GSM, with GPRS and EDGE technologies, and these features are responsive and work well, but the lack of 3G support is still a pity.
It has a good 3 inch screen, with a 240x400 pixel resolution, which is pretty decent, and it’s bright and clear making the viewing experience nice enough. The touchscreen interface is easily manoeuvrable and responsive, and Samsung’s widget technology is good and fairly easy to use.
This phone also lacks GPS and Wi-Fi, which will most likely prove frustrating; especially considering how perfect this phone would be if they were available. It has an accelerometer, allowing you to use it in landscape mode, where a QWERTY keypad becomes accessible for texting.
There is 50mb built-in memory with microSD compatibility, and it has a pretty decent battery life. All in all, if you’re willing to compromise and except its flaws, this phone is a decent and affordable solution to those who want a sleek, touchscreen without paying top dollar.
Summary:
- Good Points: It’s a good looker, it has a nice layout and it’s pretty easy to use to boot.
- Bad Points: No GPS, Wi-Fi or 3G compatibility could prove highly frustrating.
- Others to Consider: Toshiba TG01, HTC Magic.
- Free on Contract with: Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile & Vodafone.
