The second version of Samsung's Galaxy hit phone, the Galaxy S2 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor and offers again one of Samsung's best mobile phones to date.

Samsung has been saying that this phone is vivid, fast and slim and we think it lives up to those claims.

In terms of style, the phone looks quite slick, with a minimal gloss black front. It is also really thin, the thinnest smartphone we have seen, actually probably the thinnest phone we have seen, this in turn makes it lightweight. It is easy to hold in your hand. Though as this is a premium device, we expected it to be made from premium materials, but the back does feel a bit cheap.

The display is very bright and vivid, the colours pop out of the screen, making watching movies, looking at photos and just generally using the phone a very enjoyable experience. Add in the speed of the dual-core 1.2GHz processor and the latest version of Android, and you have yourself an excellent smartphone, which could be a strong competitor to the Apple iPhone.

The phone packs an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, which produces some great quality pictures, helped by its built in image stabilisation. It can also shoot HD video. The 2 megapixel front facing camera allows good quality video calls.

The latest version of Android and touchwiz user interface, makes it a breeze to use, with some of the bugs from previous versions having been ironed out.

Overall the Galaxy S2 is a welcome addition to the Galaxy family of phone devices and its premium features make it one of Samsung's best phones and one of the best Android handsets around at the moment. For those looking for an Android smartphone, this is one to have a look at.

Summary:

  • Good Points: fast, good quality high resolution screen
  • Bad Points: Cheap build quality
  • Others to Consider: Apple iPhone 4
